Art Lab: Zora Volantes

EN

Dates: 08 June- 5 July 2015

Mixer Artlab, which is a project started by Mixer in order to create alternative spaces for producing art, aims to make art’s production process more visible and transparent which is shared with the audience not often. The program is open to both local and international artists and it transforms art’s production process into a different experience both for the artist and the audience, while making art more reachable. Mixer ArtLab aims to make the artist’s production process and their workshop visible, rather than the usual exhibiting process.

Zora Volantes, who is the ninth artist to be invited to Mixer’s ArtLab program, will incorporate a new aspect to ArtLab studio’s architectural language by arranging a work peculiar to the studio’s architectural structure. The abstract images of the artist will become clear on surfaces when she interprets an asymmetric installation made from sheer papers and reflecting projectors on different points of the surface.

Zora Volantes, born in Berlin, Germany in 1971, did her education on cinema and theatre science at Freie Üniversität Berlin. Volantes started her education on sculpting at Berlin Fine Arts University in 1994 and she went to Vienna Fine Arts Academy with her Erasmus scholarship and there, she got educated by Michelangelo Pistoletto. She became the student of Rebecca Horn in 2000. London DAAD Scholarship, Berlin Fine Arts University Artists Encouragement Scholarship and Konrad Adenauer Institution Scholarship are some of the many scholarships Zora Volantes earned.

In collaboration with the Goethe Institut Istanbul and Austrian Culture Office, the artist materialized her exhibition called “Rotation” in Istanbul and her participation in Mixer’s ArtLab Project is also supported by Goethe Institut Istanbul.
