It was love…

Searched for Something from Myself

Through a variety of media, including photographs, documents, and found objects, Ekin Keser undertakes a reconstruction of his own existence, reinterpreting his experiences through the memories and records of others.

Beyond the Landscape

Focusing on the intersection of works by two artists who are inspired by different disciplines, the exhibition takes different perspectives into urban and natural sceneries and offers a union that encompasses both.

Ehven-i Şer

The Lesser Evil is an examination of seeing. It’s an effort to understand which eye sees what we see. It is a sign of how the stories others tell us have made us grow accustomed to a certain type of memorization. It is a period analysis of the act of cutting down speed and of old perspectives, in this new age where even our taste is condemned to the perspective of others.

For Book Lovers

The exhibition For Book Lovers is inspired by the book Reading Art: Art for Book Lovers by David Trigg. The book gathers works from various means of production throughout the history of art that include books. The exhibition focuses on the contemporary paintings from the recent period that includes books and presents a selection to the audience at Mixer’s project room.

New Grammar of İmages

The idea of new materialism constitutes the second theoretical layer of the conceptual framework, and the exhibition, including the works of 10 artists, offers an inter-work reading in terms of the relationality between objects and various techniques, methods of display, materiality, and artists.

The Wave in the Mind

The exhibition focuses on how the boundaries of mind and worlds of meaning are formed and how emotions and behaviors are shaped, by way of our interaction with the outside world.

212 PHOROGRAPHY ISTANBUL: REMIX by MIXER

Mixer, will present a selection of its Lens series, which it has been continuing for the last three years, as well as a selection of photography works that have appeared in different exhibitions in the gallery, at Akaretler no:15, between October 6 and 16.

Voids

The exhibition examines the “things” transformed by the sense of mourning that arises and keeps changing in wake of people, emotions, venues, and objects that have left a mark on the artist’s life and shares her healing process with the audience.

A secret about a secret

Being a seasoned cinematographer, the photographs of Emre Erkmen reflect his professional sensibility at its best. In the exhibition, the images of the rural and urban spaces and lives in these distant places are juxtaposed and arranged through a cinematographic sequence that debuts its journey with the urban scenes followed by the images of rural life. Finally, these two spaces of differences confront each other within the mazes that exhibit these two worlds facing each other.

Introspection

Choosing to follow her own intuition to guide herself beyond the limits of her academic training as an artist, Şentürk’s paintings are filled with lines, shapes and colors that reflect her intuitive introspection. Through the exhibition the viewers are invited to navigate themselves in this private voyage and its mystical scenes.

Self Layers

Gökçe İrten’s exhibition Self Layers focuses on the individual’s multilayered relationship between their self-identity, their location, and everything around them.

Coulisse

The exhibition aims to lay ground for a critical dialogue on the new forms of relationalities in the areas where the boundaries of dualistic categories such as human/non-human animal, human/machine, conscious/unconscious, public/private and art/market are intertwined and fluidized.

In My Forest

Rugül Serbest seeks ways to re-experience herself, her body, and her inner world by impersonating "someone else" through her paintings.

One Step Closer to My Ultimate Self

In Gorchakov Tarkovsky’s Nostalghia, it is said that the unspoken feelings are doomed to be forgotten. In order not to leave the past behind, we try to keep those feelings live and for this reason, a few memories of the past always remain with us. We continue our lives listening to the inner voices telling us who we are and where we come from. We try to keep this connection alive through objects, sometimes even a tombstone can be an object to trace back.

Squeezing neighborhoods into single buildings created isolated lives by decreasing the trust and sincerity.

Observed Truths (2017)

Reality can be interpreted as the process of transforming imperceptible concepts into perceptible ones. While performing a review on the relativity and necessity of the concept of reality, the exhibition questions the concept of Reality shaped with regard to the references the elements of perception create within themselves. In line with this reference, it is the indiscipline itself, where ways of perception are perpetually diversified and adapted on, that is Absolute.

Grid (2016)

Mixer’s new exhibition "Grid " brings together a group of emerging artists who divide their working plane into equal parts, form relations between those parts and treat rules and boundaries of the society and the individual as grids. While being a template consisted of equally sized units, such as squares or rectangles, grid helps us to find our way on maps, while establishes new relations between identical parts of a whole, creating new paths. Although its units are equal to each other, grid embraces the diversity of the structure or the surface it is laid on.

Last Exit (2016)

During the weekend trips to the construction sites and path of the highways and connecting roads, Bayhan took the time to speak with those living in the area. To illustrate this, the artist came up with a three-point metaphor involving rural life, the landscape and portraits.

Line (2015)

Line is one of the most important inventions of the history of civilization. It is the main constituent of written communication and artistic expression.

Line, which can be seen as an action on a platform, is shaped with the relationship a draftsman builds with the surface. Its boundaries are therefore determined and it eventually evolves into a form. In this context, power of the line turns into a visual memory within historical process, depending on both the cultural environment and the person who draws it.

Close to Self (2015)

We want our photographs to carry happy marks from particular moments. Looking back at a photograph, we remember as we combine our memories with the feeling that the photo gives us. We don’t stand alone in those happy moments; we want someone or something next to us to appear in that photo. Then, why there is a need for someone or something –it could be a simple thing as well as a monument or an organic structure–? Is it because they contribute to our construction of identity, or because they visually set off our character? Or with all of these, is it because they also ally with our emotions?

Non-Place (2014)

The non-places which influence the way mobile subjects of the contemporary world experience places, bring people together and let them socialize while giving individuals an existential contradiction space by creating a sense of loneliness.

Chaoskampf (2014)

Bugdan’s recent works are shaped with a pictorial setting focusing on the Chaos and the ones standing against it. Reflecting on new perspectives and produced by renewed techniques, these art works reveal the artist’s experimental seeking. As it becomes possible to see the clash of chaos and order on the surface in his paintings through intertwining tones of color, his drawings and prints contain more of figurative impressions about this opposition.

Non-existing Images (2014)

Non-existing Images builds its theoretical framework on the multi-layered relationship between the image and the viewer. Each form we encounter on various media –usually on two-dimensional surfaces– eventually becomes first a continuum and then a completion in the minds of the viewers, with regards to their own existential incompletion. In line with the idea that the image is incomplete on its own and can only be complete in the mind of the viewer, artworks face countless different interpretations and transform into a myriad of unique reflections.

Erör (2014)

Cins’s works seem as a visual diary inspired by encounters of daily objects with his subconscious. The title of the exhibition is a play on the word ‘error’, combining the roughness of ‘terror’ and the ‘error’s he encounters during his new artistic practice. The pastel tones the artist uses, puts the revolting objects depicted out of their context and invites the viewer to read these drawings in a different way.

Not Quite As Thought (2014)

The post-modern age creates some existential problems such as the objectification of the body, identity problems, social pre-acceptances, and individuality in common life. These problems put forward the duality of body/consciousness, and also naturalise the process of individuals positioning themselves within the outside world.

New Perceptions: Body and Boundaries (2014)

In the works of Kocakaya, the identity changing in the axis of uncertainty of the space is visualized as the position of seeking its own existence. The ambiguity in faces, in a sense, gives a clue to the distributional relationship established between the viewer and the artist. The solo exhibition of Kocakaya including image, photograph and video works focuses on the expression of mental action and physical reaction of human to circumstances she is in. The artist uses her own body as a model in her works while produces a new faceless body dispelling her facial expressions.

Hotel Italia (2013)

The need to inject the nourishment that only art and culture can provide to a hotel once branded under the admirable title of Italia, is an unambiguous resolve by the involved artists and curator(s) alike – by interpreting this and focusing on the cultural heart of a nation that is currently choking under civil negligence and the loss of political centrality, Hotel Italia offered not only its viewers the opportunity of discovering the many works hanging on its labyrinth of ‘hotel room walls’, but also this experience on the whitewashed walls of an art space, expropriated from their original place of origin, creating an air of disorientation among this ‘hotels’ unusual temporary guests.

Grigori (2013)

In a passive society made up of homogenous, cloned individuals, a society where even the slightest hint of pandemonium fails to make any difference. A society now so deeply rooted, it takes more than a few individuals to break the mould, and as a result of this lack in individual force, any glitches that one attempts to gather are meaningless; a single person’s efforts are guaranteed to fail, as one belongs merely in an existential sense.
