ArtLab: Joachim Romain

TR

Mixer welcomes French artist Joachim Romain to take part in ArtLab’s ‘October – November 2013’ residency period!

ArtLab is one of Mixer’s key initiatives in further solidifying its relationship with international and local artists. ArtLab takes an otherwise routine - unseen aspect of an artist’s production period and ‘exhibits’ this to a constantly, live audience in Mixer’s open studio space (ArtLab), offering the audience an opportunity to interact with our guest artist, and vice-versa.

Joachim Romain is the fourth artist to be invited to take part in Mixer’s ArtLab programme carrying out his period of production to be shared with visitors in the space between 22nd October – 15th November. Romain’s work is inspired by collective memory and social structures, in particular he is interested in exploring the influence of the media’s visual images and texts generally appearing in, and around public spaces. Joachim intends to explore these ideas further during his time in Istanbul and will collect posters and banners and stick them to an aluminium surfaces creating various forms in order to transform our collective memory into a sculpture.

Joachim Romain studied graphic design and later chose to develop his career as an artist opening his first solo exhibition in 2002. His second solo exhibition entitled ‘A l’Origine’, hosted by the Paris gallery, Le 6b opened in 2013. Joachim continues to carry out his work from his Paris base.

This project is supported by Flatsinİstanbul and the European Cultural Foundation.
