LENS'19 Things Seen
17.10.2019-30.11.2019
Set out to bring works from various disciplines to the audience in 2012, Mixer is now preparing to present “Lens”, an exhibition series which focuses solely on photography. Starting this year with its inaugural exhibition curated by Sena Çakırkaya, the series will, in the coming years, follow the tracks of photography in Turkey and around the world by shifting its focus on different themes and techniques.
Taking place between 17th October and 30th November 2019, the exhibition concentrates on works which contemplate on the technical and conceptual limits of photography and consider it a testing ground. In this sense, the exhibition is a tribute to experimentality which combines performance and technique. Artworks, that get the idea and the production closer together and let imagination and original thinking a wider area to roam, find a place in the exhibition. Beyond the camera being used as a tool to convey ideas and facts, we see various attempts to enhance the phenomenon of photography. Without being overshadowed by dominant theories, the effort to put the process and the thought to their rightful place becomes apparent.
Parallel to the comeback of the material and technical variety in contemporary photography, this exhibition brings together approaches such as photographs without cameras, computer based images or analogue, digital or physical manipulations on photographs. The exhibition treats the image both as the starting point and destination by following the tracks of this testing ground in Turkey since 1970s.
On 19th October between 16.00 and 18.00, a panel composed of some of the artists i.e. Selim Süme, Orhan Cem Çetin and Selen Solak will meet and talk photography in moderation of the curator Sena Çakırkaya. Also, another artist from the exhibition, Yusuf Murat Şen, will accompany a visit to the Mimar Sinan University Fine Arts Academy Alternative Photography Studio on 15th November.
