We are going through difficult times in terms of health and mobility, however we hope to be able to get through this process with good health. For the coming months, we created a list of open calls, artist residency programs and awards held abroad for artists that are willing to improve their production process with a new vision. 1- Frame Contemporary Art Finland Curatorial Research Fellowship

Deadline: 07/06/2020

Location: Utretch, the Netherlands-Limerick, Ireland

The Frame Curatorial Research Fellowship by Frame Contemporary Art Finland is a new curatorial research programme for 2020-2023 organised in close collaboration with four international institutional partners. The programme offers support to develop new curatorial research practices and cultivate active curatorial research practices embedded in organizational practice. It aims to tackle questions such as what kind of curatorial research is needed in order to imagine new ways presenting and mediating contemporary art and cultural production in a form that is inseparable from the daily life, politics and policies of artists and institutions.

2- Open Call: O Rumo do Fumo Residency Programme

Deadline: 07/06/2020

Location: Lisbon, Portugal

The programme supports the contemporary artistic creation, stimulating its research and development by hosting two residencies for emerging artists. It provides to the selected projects conditions for its development during one month. O Rumo do Fumo offers: financial support, rehearsal studio, artistic counselling and organization of a work-in-progress presentation at Espaço da Penha.

3- Open Call: Jameel Arts Centre Commission: Digital

Deadline: 7/06/2020

Art Jameel has a longstanding interest in commissioning artists to make new works, often for the public realm, as well as in media or situations that further their ongoing artistic practice. In 2017, Art Jameel launched a commissioning programme anchored at Jameel Arts Centre in Dubai, UAE. With 2020 proving to be a year of exceptional circumstance, the programme has been adjusted and expanded to include a new iteration—Art Jameel Commissions: Digital. Through an Open Call, Art Jameel is inviting artists to respond to the brief for this exciting opportunity – specifically, artists from or based in the Middle East, North Africa and Turkey. Aside from the prize an additional dedicated production budget will be allocated to the winning artist to cover all materials and production costs necessary for the production of the work as well as travel and accommodation to travel to Jameel Arts Centre.

4- Open Call: Kinono Tinos Art Gathering

Location: Athens, Greece

KINONO Tinos Art Gathering introduces the thematic proposal ''FOUR (PLUS ONE) ELEMENTS”, borrowing the four natural elements (earth, water, air, fire) and distinguishing their cooperation in the creation, over time, of the peculiar natural and man-made environment of the island of Tinos. By creating different conditions of studying space, which monitor the cycle-chain of transformation from one natural element to another,KINONO imagines the partnership of a combination of two elements, under the influence of time, in each one of the hand-picked locations, as follows: Fire-Water/Koumelas Quarries, Water-Earth/Plain of Komi, Earth-Fire/Ismael village, Fire-Air/Papargyras Lighthouse, Air-Earth/Kakia Skala, Air-Water/Livada Beach.

5- Open Call: International Creator Residency Program (Individual Projects) 2021

Location: Tokyo, Japan

Tokyo Arts and Space (TOKAS), operated by a division of The Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, offers artist-in-residence programs for international creators working in various creative fields to stay, engage in creation, and conduct research activities in Tokyo. It also provides creators with the opportunities to exchange creative ideas and to present outcomes of their residency at TOKAS-organized events, such as the Open Studio. The open-call program “International Creator Residency Program” aims to invite distinguished and highly motivated creators in the field of visual art, film, design, and architecture from all over the world and offer them with opportunities to work in Tokyo and provide financial support to allow creators to develop and present new works and ideas.

6- Awards: Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant

Deadline: Open all time

Established as part of Lee Krasner’s legacy, the Pollock Krasner Foundation Grant was set up to support and strengthen the creative lives of artists. Being a competitive grant for artists with extensive exhibition records, this grant awards a range from $5,000 to $30,000, depending on need and circumstance to mid-career professional artists who demonstrable financial need in the field of painting, sculpture, as well as artists who work on paper, including printmaking.

7- Open Call: Produktionszentrum Tanz + Performance and Akademie Schloss Solitude Residency Programme

Location: Stuttgart, Germany

Produktionszentrum Tanz + Performance, Akademie Schloss Solitude ile çağdaş dansçılara ve sanatçılara ikamet bursu vermek için Stuttgart Devlet Başkenti Kültür Ofisi'nin bir girişimi olan TANZPAKT Stuttgart kapsamında ilk kez işbirliği yapmaktadır. Dünyanın dört bir yanından Stuttgart'ın idari bölgesinde aktif şekilde sanatçı olarak çalışmayan herkesi başvuru yapmaya davet eden katılımcı kurumlar, Stuttgart'ın serbest dans sahnesinde ağ ve işbirliğini geliştirmeyi, koreografik uygulama üzerine çalışmaları kolaylaştırmayı hedeflemektedir. Araştırmaya, sanatsal üretime olanak sağlamayı amaçlayan programa katılım için kişinin kendi çalışmalarını sunma ve Stuttgart'taki Serbest Dans Sahnesi ile etkileşim kurma isteği ön şarttır.

8- Open Call: Villa Ruffieux Residency Programme

Deadline: 30/06/2020

Location: Valais, Switzerland

The residency is open to all professional artists working in the field of visual arts, music, literature, theatre, or cinema, with no distinction made based on age or nationality. The program which provides a workshop, office or working area and covers the cost of travel to and from the residency is open for researchers and scientists as well.

9- Open Call: Carpintarias de São Lázaro Artist Residency

Location: Lisbon, Portugal

AiR is organized by the Fine Arts Department / Carpintarias de São Lázaro and will take place within the center, in a close relationship to the neighborhood its part of, the city and the local arts community. The goal of AiR Carpintarias is to challenge artists to create strategies in how to bring together people from neighboring communities, and how to be confronted with Carpintarias de São Lázaro, this new cultural space of contemporary creation. Thus, the leitmotiv of this AiR is the idea of and the reflection on the concept of community. What is ‘community’ and how is it set-up; how can we build a ‘community’ through contemporary art?

10- Open Call: Biofaction Residency Programme

Location: United Kingdom, Spain, Denmark

Biofaction, seeking applications for new Artist in Residence programmes, will invite four artists to work from four to six weeks at various laboratories across Europe. In residence, the artist will actively engage with scientists working on one of three Synthetic Biology related projects that delve into fascinating areas: plant molecular farming, new-to-nature reactions, and cell factories. The programme welcomes applications from artists, designers, biohackers, musicians, or other cultural practitioners who want to carry out artistic work with biological media.

11- Open Call: International Festival on Experimental Photography

12- Open Call: Bucharest International Film Dance Festival Open Call for Shorts- Dance Films, Musicals

Deadline: 5/07/2020

Location: Bucharest, Romania

BIDFF - Bucharest International Dance Film Festival tries to envision the future. This year we use utopian-dystopian impulses as an instrument for reflection and dance films as a medium. We invite film directors, choreographers, visual artists, animators, and musicians to submit their short films to the sixth edition of the festival, that will take place in Bucharest, between September 3 – 6. We also highly encourage you to apply if you have a movement themed animation or if you have a short fiction film or experimental short, centered on the concept of utopia and dystopia.
